Madile has 656 learners and 20 educators. 32% of the children at Madile are orphans. 9% of the learners grow up in children-run households, making school even that much more vital & impactful to their growth, care and future.

Juan Carlos is a New York based Designer, Typographer & Art Director. In 2006 he received his BFA in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design, and in 2011 he completed his studies as part of the inaugural class of Type@Cooper, the Postgraduate Typeface Design certification program at Cooper Union.
Juan is currently the Design Director at Deutsch New York and a Partner at the Brooklyn based design studio Pagan & Sharp. Prior to Deutsch Juan served as Head of Design at DDB New York.
I was really drawn to how most of the students added the Springbok into their illustrations. They clearly have a lot of pride in their school mascot. So I thought it was important to bring that into the logo.
I wanted to merge three things...
1. The Springboks beautiful horns (acting as an icon that can stand on it’s own)
2. The letter “M” (representing Madile)
3. And add soccer ball
Typographically I noticed that the school buildings have a lot of beautiful brush script work on the exterior walls. This inspired me to choose the typeface called Fakir with is a contemporary black letter rooted in brush strokes. It also references the beautiful Mountains in the surrounding landscape.
